Yesterday evening, the association \"P\u00f6delwitz hat Zukunft e.V.\" presented an overall concept for P\u00f6delwitz to the Groitzsch town council: The village is to become a model village and exemplify how villages in regions of structural change can develop in a sustainable and future-oriented way. The association relies on regional cycles and an active and mixed village community. The initiators assume that the concept will have nationwide appeal in the context of the coal phase-out and can serve as a blueprint for other villages in regions of structural change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Instead of leaving the development of the village to the market, we want to create a self-determined, lively village community. By attracting businesses, we want to live and work in the village for the most part. The concept is nothing new - villages functioned like this for thousands of years - it just tries to combine the traditional with today's requirements in order to ensure a socially and climate-friendly rural life in the long term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than 100 people from the Leipziger Land and the city of Leipzig have already come together to repopulate the village as part of the P\u00f6delwitz hat Zukunft concept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the people comes a lot of energy and inventiveness in the village - and concrete projects that interlock: Vegetables, for example, are to be grown through solidarity farming and processed directly in the village canteen or the village caf\u00e9. A coworking space replaces the daily trip to the office in Leipzig, and a cultural centre offers space for events such as readings and concerts. A hairdressing salon is also planned, as well as a start-up that makes bicycle helmets from mushroom mycelium. A residential centre for people with disabilities is also to be built in the village. The centre's assisted living and recreation buildings will provide a place of retreat.
