Pödelwitz has a future! - New position paper 2022 on the development of the village

Together with alliance organisations, we have prepared a new position paper on planning the future of Pödelwitz.

The new position paper was significantly expanded on the basis of the paper published in 2020 and adapted to current developments. Among other things, the ideas for the development of the village are now derived from a jointly developed value base and meaningfully structured in a total of 12 principles. It is now also more possible to use it as a guide for political decisions in the village and in all other political structures related to the village. Some essential concrete demands have already been integrated into this paper; for further developments of these, we invite potential co-designers from politics and business to a constructive exchange within the framework of the Future Forum. But the new paper can and should also provide motivation for individuals to continue their efforts to promote a necessary global and socio-ecological transformation.

To ensure that villages like Pödelwitz, which have been significantly affected by coal mining, are sustainable for the coming decades, we believe it is essential to shape strong and resilient villages and village communities that live a spirit of cooperation and responsibility. The position paper provides an overview of the measures and projects we will implement to achieve this.

Pödelwitz has become known for its resistance against destruction and after the preservation we, as people living in and supporting Pödelwitz, now want to take on further responsibility. We want to contribute to developing and shaping the forms of future life and thus make the potentials of the people living here visible and strengthen them. We are thinking, among other things, of the capacity for solidarity, love, creativity, the desire to contribute meaningfully and to have the common well-being in mind.

Pödelwitz can and wants to become a model project for structural change in the region with a global social and climate-friendly perspective. The revitalisation is to be guided by the desire to build a world that has room for many worlds and is based on mutual interconnectedness and the need for mutual respect towards ecosystems, living beings and human needs. The aim is to build a model of civilisation and society that is based on solidarity and sustainable development and that explores, learns, implements and communicates urgent issues such as food sovereignty, social and global justice and housing available to all.
